We're excited to share the first issue of our Smittens Rescue newsletter! Through our monthly issues, we look forward to sharing kitten updates, organization news, and upcoming events. This is an effort through our newly assembled Community Engagement Team to expand our reach within the San Diego community and increase the impact of our work.

Adoption Spotlight
Bella
Poor Bella was found outside of LA skinny, starving, and asking anyone for help. A rescuer found her and with the help of a GPS tracker, also realized she had three very young kittens! All of the kittens were in poor condition, needing immediate medical attention. Bella had been trying her best to keep all of her babies alive but with little food for herself, she was fighting a losing battle. After a lot of love, patience, and TLC from Smittens volunteers, all of the kittens began thriving! And once Bella had consistent feeding, she plumped up very quickly! Her kittens have all been adopted and it is time for Bella to find her furrever family. Bella needs a calm environment where she is the only cat around. She is looking for a patient companion or family that is willing to understand her unique needs to provide time and space as she adjusts to her new home. She loves people and once you've earned her trust, she enjoys being held and receiving affection.

Smittens Success Story!
Horus
Sweet baby Horus was found in El Centro by Tiny House Rescues. The local colony was overwhelmed with several sick cats and kittens. Tiny House Rescues knew his condition was dire so made it a priority to capture Horus, who was immediately rushed into emergency surgery by our partners at Feral Cat Coalition. Horus made an exceptional recovery and was adopted into his fur-ever home on December 14!! We knew this sweet kitten had a full life to live and because of our generous donors, Smittens was able to pay for a portion of his surgery. Horus' story represents every cat we rescue - our dedication to reduce animal suffering. Your support ensures this critical work continues right here in our community.
Smittens Impact
A huge part of reducing animal suffering is the simple act of spaying and neutering your pets. Many cats and kittens just like Horus suffer every day. We can’t rescue all but we make a difference through proper neutralization. A female kitten can begin to reproduce as young as 4 months old. In a very short time, a colony can easily multiply out of our control. Smittens is committed to providing resources for affordable spay and neuter services so we have fewer stories like Horus'.
